Students make debut at riding championships (Summer 2010)
Four students from Bridgwater College made their debut at the Inter-College Riding Championship at Warwickshire College this year. This was the first time the College has entered the competition and second year BTEC National Diploma Horse Management students Amy McCormack, Ashley Edmond, Alice Smith and Bobbi Larcombe were chosen to represent the College.
The competition was held at the Moreton Morrell campus in Warwickshire and involved 12 equestrian teams from land-based colleges around the UK, competing on horses supplied by Warwickshire College. Team were given just 15 minutes with their allocated horses before competing in dressage and show jumping phases.
Alice and Bobbi represented the team in the show jumping phase and Amy managed to complete a good dressage, whilst Ashley achieved the second best dressage score in the competition. Each student received a rosette, box of chocolates and all agreed that it has been an exciting opportunity to represent the College.
Section Leader for Animal Care, Equine and Agriculture, Claire Winson, who accompanied the students to the event commented, "To successfully compete in this sort of competition the girls needed to be bold skilful riders and without a doubt they proved this. Overall the team did exceptionally well and I am very proud of them. The competition offered our students an opportunity to showcase their riding talents and we look forward to competing again next year."
