Staff member training for the London 10k

A Bridgwater College member of staff is training to take part in the London 10k race on Sunday 14 July, for the charity Retraining of Racehorses (RoR).

Hatti Troake, Technician for the College’s Cannington Equestrian Centre was selected to run by RoR, who are British horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of retired racehorses, after successfully applying for one of only six places. After completing the London Marathon in 2010, Hatti was looking for another run to take part in, even though she swore she wouldn’t after finishing the last marathon!

Each runner will participate using their ex-racehorse’s name; in Hatti’s case, the College’s Dr Caligari, or DC. DC is a 21 year old ex-racehorse, used by students on a daily basis for dressage, lungeing and additional stable tasks.

Hatti said, “I want to help raise the profile of RoR as it’s such a worthwhile charity. A lot of human charities have a good profile but sometimes animal charities are forgotten. RoR is vital in helping to educate people on how to retrain ex-racehorses and give them a new lease of life after racing and I want to help them achieve this. If anybody would like to sponsor me, my Just Giving page is http://www.justgiving.com/Hattitroake.”
